 Subject: 1994 Dakota 3.9 fuel problem?

The motor will not start unless the fuel pressure is relieved on the fuel rail schrader valve, then starts and runs fine untill you shut it off. I put a new fuel pump assy in about 6 mos ago, motor ran fine untill now. Help .........

Update ............ will not start at all now. Slid the bed back and fuel pump is not running when the key is turned on. The pump is a Carter from NAPA, 6 mos old!! Wiring?? Looking for color code ....... thanks

another update , got the color code for the fuel pump connector and here is what I found; both black wires have good grounds, with the key on there is no 12v on the green/black wire. I went to the fuel pump relay, removed it, then jumped 12v from the battery to the relay base terminal that supplys 12v to the pump and the pump came on. Proves the wiring from the relay to the pump is good, now, what turns the relay on? Power is available at the relay base, the relay is not pulling in (swapped relay, no help). HELP ......... Thanks

try looking for the corroded splice just down from the fuse block under the hood. it powers the pump.

Could be a failing fuel pump, clogged filter or injector(s), even a failing battery/charging system.

Im terrence im 17 i have a 1994 dodge dakota v6 3.9 liter. when my fuel pump was not working well i did everything i could. its not the fuel pump its self its the wiering. the dodge dakota is known for the corrosion on the wiering leading to the fuel pump. save your self the hassel and check the wiering coming from the fuel pump to the relay. i garante that youl find corrosion along the wire some were. check the wiring first before doing anything else. i spent the whole weekend working my ass off and paying stupid money in parts until i figured its somthing simple as the wiering

i have a dodge dakota 1994 5 speed 4 cylinder. omg help. i have replaced my fuel pump fuel filter distributor cap rotor spark plugs. it dies on me when i drive. i dont have a connectors in the fuse box for a relay. the previous owner ran a line from my battery to a throttle switch to the gas tank. so to turn on the fuel pump i have to pull a swith by my steering wheel. i cant figure out how to get it ng. someone out there please help me figure out how to un rig it and get it running.

Every once in a while we will go out to start the truck and
tries to start but acts like it is not getting gas
But after about 10 minutes it will start
Any Ideas? I have changed the fuel pump

Start by checking the #115 wire splice
(also called under hood wire splice)
Under hood drivers side inner fender well
Black fuse relay box
Remove it
untape the wire harness
You are now looking for a splice of 3 to 4 wires
(usually red/white)
The splice either gets cruded up or breaks
altogether
Cut the splice out
Re'do it
Tape the harness back up
Re'install the relay/fuse box

Cut all the wiring out of the truck and replace it or your truck may become a rolling fireball.
Or you could purchase a newer model.
