Subject: 90 dakota almost stalls

i just recently bought a 1990 dakota extended cab truck it has the 3.9 litre v6 and sometimes when coming to a stop the rpms drop so low that it almost stalls
any ideas what would cause this i put new plugs and wires on it but that made no difference
and what bolt pattern will does this truck have 5x?
btw it is automatic and rwd

Try changing the fuel filter? It's on the fuel line on the driver's side frame (inside it) and its a 5 bolt rim (is that what you are talking about?). '91 on up are six bolt pattern.

ok i will give that a try and i know it's bolt bolt but i was wondering what the other number is 5 x ?? i know my intrepid is 5x114.3

your problem is with your idle air control motor, on the back of the throttle body, take it off and clean it with some carb cleaner and you should be good to go.

If the above fails, try the EGR valve, if it is not functioning properly it will stall at times when you come to a stop. Usually rust is the problem and the diaphram leaks air.

ok well i took it off and cleaned it and so far so good
and as for the egr it's brand new also.
