Subject: Front suspension squeal
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a bad squealing problem comming from my driver side front suspension. Every time my truck hits a bump of bounces a bit there is a heavy high pitched squeal that follows. I have checked the shocks, replaced the idler arm, replaced the control arm bushings, had the ball joints checked, and so on. So far I have spent close to $2000 trying to trouble shoot this issue and still have not found it. Presently I am strongly considering putting on a TC suspension lift and replacing most of the front suspension! please enlighten me if anyone else has had similar problems.

I have the same problem, and only time mine does it is when i first get into the truck and leave my apt, and go over a speed bump. Starting to wonder if there is any grease fittings somewhere on the front end causing it. but if find out and don't care e-mail me and let me know what you done to fix the problem. thanks

The squeal I get happens all the time and is quite loud to the point my neighbors and enyone else in the vicinity is looking. Presently I am looking at putting a suspension lift on and replace much of the front suspension. I am gettin fed up with the problem and do not want to go on longer with it.

I have had the same thing for some time. On mine it is the rubber mounts that the front sway bar pass thru. I spray them with silicone spray and it lasts a while. Asked the dealer about replacement of the mounts and he said it would stop for a while. Big help.

I had the same thing, but mine would squeal on a right turn. It was the right tie-rod, it was causing the tire to lean over too far and made the brake squeal.

03Dakota, sounds like the water pump. The viscous fan was warped or broken and caused the pump bearings to wear. The squeal was more noticeable on a cold morning until the engine warmed up. Had the bearings replaced. I pulled the mechanical fan off and put on an electric one.

I have the same problem on my truck. I happens to both the right and left and mostly when I am driving straight and hit bumps or turning sharp. I figured it was just the bushings so I get a bottle of penetrating oil and lubricant and spray every bushing down. I use a whole can per side and it always makes it go away. At least for about 4 or so months. It cost too damn much to replace all those bushings so I will continue doing this until it stops working.

The other part of the problem is locating the squeek. Which sometimes I seem to hear differant squeeks leading me to believe it may be more that one bushing. But even with my best efforst and a home made stethescope I can't find exactly which one it is....

I have seen some of those high performance polyurethane sway bar bushings for other vehicles at Autozone, but not sure if the would help with the squealing or if they even make them for the dakota.
