I've got a 98 dakota that recently started screaming like the belt was loose, I've replaced the serpentine belt and checked all pulleys(Alt,AC,WP, and Power Steering) but didnt find anything wrong. Can't seem to find the problem, please help.

Tensioner going bad maybe? Does the screeching sound speed up when the RPMs speed up and slow down when the RPMs slow down?

Yeah the screeching does get louder with the increase in rpm. I did change out the tensioner pulley and still the same thing.

Hmmm...it's almost gotta be something powered by the belt then. Try the screwdriver test...placing the tip to each accessory and the other end to your ear and see if you can track it down.

it seems you forgot about that little idler pulley. it's probably the culprit.

I had a Jeep Comanche truck that I had the same problem with. I went as far as chaging the water pump too. It was the harmonic balancer, or dampner, the main pulley or whatever else you want to call it. I could see that it was wobbling quite a bit, and that was the only way I could tell it was bad. I've heard that if you have a timing light the mark will be jumping all around too because of this.

There is an idler pully between the alt and A/C
around $30 just unbolt it and check the bearing

could be anything starting to lockup causing the
belt squeal
