 Subject: 3.9 Performance Book?

Hey, i'm looking for a 3.9 engine performance book, if that makes any sense. I'd like to understand this particular engine better and learn how to improve performance. I don't want to slap on any old part. I'd like to know what it does and how it improves performance. If anyone can point me into a direction, Larry perhaps, that would be great. Thanks!

this book may help. it is for small block v8's but since the 3.9 is the little brother i'm sure some things may apply.

That 10 dollar book says nothing in the title about 3.9 engines after 1991. It stops at 1991. I looked at it and wasn't sure...

That's because the 3.9 was not a Magnum til 1992.
You want Magnum, you shoulda said Magnum.

I bought that mopar performance book for 3.9's, only to find out it was only for pre-magnum engines. While this doesn't really help me for my 98, I figure it might help me if something major goes in the engine. I don't think the engine specs are too far off between magnums and premags.

You're addressing the first book I listed, not the second. The Magnum book even has a chapter on the 2.5L "Magnum".

if you have a 03 then you definetely have a magnum. if you read the previous posts you would have noticed "That's because the 3.9 was not a Magnum til 1992" so basically anything after 91 was a mag.

Humm thought I answerd that before
Here are the basic mods do them in order to get
the best resaults doing the exh first will show
a loss
Increase air flow entering the motor
cold air intake
Bigger throttle body
V8 good around $100 used
fastman 46mm better $250 reworked factory body
F&B 48mm best around $400 new billit body
Optional
gasket match intake manifold ports big restriction
shorten intake runners
1.7 rollers
harland sharp bolt in around $300
crower need proper adjusting and cover baffle mod
around $360
Fuel
on your 03 21# fms injectors matched closer and
a 4 hole spray smother running better idle and
increased mid and top end perf
Now do your exhaust
high flow cat
dynomax 17748 or flowmaster 50
single 2.5 tail always shows best on dyno runs
JBA Gibbson or pacesetter headers
on your 03 microchips max micro tunner
or do the crank sensor mod to advance timming
Jet stage 2 chip
The obd2's also react well to a MSD 6a box and a
hot MSD coil gap plugs .050 to .060
tach adapter needed also or you will throw coil
circuit code
If you get any ping 3923 plugs
Stock Ign
Napa MO26 and MO28 brass incerts cap and rotor
a set of taylor 8mm or MSD 8.5 wires
If you live where its warm a 180 super stat stant
thermo cold a reg stant 195 will run around 185
in these motors
This is good for around a 40 to 50 hp gain at the
wheels
