after all and correct me if im wrong but the dakota SPORT is a SPORT truck isn't it. therefore it should be more capable than it is. An i never said i didn't like my truck, i could just be more impressed with it if it were more of a powerhouse

i have the 99 sport and dodge has a little diffrent view of sport then every one esls its more of an off road set up then like chevys idea of a sport wich is the extreme. it could use a little more get up and go but intearms of towing power it has a lot for a midsize truck

well if u want more get up and go u could change your trany computer chip to make i shift more sporty if u have the auto or if u dont mind the money go for a diffrent gearing. and if u want more power there is a super charge avalible for the truck for 3g and comes with all the parts to mount it and put it in. the opions are endless if u like the truck but not the power. i love it my only prob is that the engin is knocking

so beacause it isn't meant for racing it should be slower and less powerful(and get worse milage then) just about every smaller V6 out there. All the v6s that make 175 or less hp are between 2.5 and 3.5(stretch). are nissan maximas meant for racing??? hell no!!! Is an S600 meant for racing....NO...then why does it have 493hp???oh must be a race car. yep you know how the latest rage in street racing is the honda pilot...yept it has 240hp...must be a race car cuz it has adequate power and doesn't drink gas like you never shut it off.
not a race truck....no sh|t...can we have a civic lx power please???

blackdak u arnt to smart so ill tell u how it works. first of all i had an s-10 and i have drove a ford ranger all with v6 and the s10 is under powered more then the dakota and the ranger about the same as the dakota. my freind has a toyota and it is built like a 4 wheel drive car. yet i cant say much about it cuase i havnt driven it. and for gas milage well it is weighs more then a car and it is not airodynamic. i mean that comon sence. a truck is not geared for speed its gear for towing to i thought that was comon sence to but ovesly u dont know to much. and the s600 is a sports car not a truck so what the hell does that have to do with any thing. and the idea of the dakota is not to have 350 hp its to be gas efficent but still be usefull like a truck if people want that kind of power they should get full size. and if u look at the pilot it puts out 240 at 5400 rpms where the dakota puts out 175 at ony 3200 rpms. u should read more carfully. and for the s200 thats 240 at 8200 rpms thats redline almost. so y dont u shut your moth and stop acting like u know what your talking about

C. You must have a 2wd because that engine aint enuff for the 4x4
D. I dont even ave ony anymore and this convo is almost as agrevating as trying to hit 75 in my dak was.

Adam is right. Truck design is not performance based. Sporty truck might be a better name. The difference only being; more sporty wheels and tires, bigger sway bar, decals, and a few other tiny differences. No hipo motors. It's the same for all brands.

i never said it was efficent but trucks arnt desingend to be. any one with half a brain knows that trucks arnt gas efficent and like i said the s600 is a car u are talking about 2 tottally diffrent vehicals. its like comparting oranges and apples. and no i have the 4x4 sport v6 3.9. if u want speed and gas millage u buy a car. the dakota is not built on the premises of speed or gas milage but power and torqe for towing. the sport is not suposed to be sporty like a car but more of an off road vehical or look like one. i mean what makes me think u are a moron is that fact that your comparing a truck to car and the fact that u dont have one and u still come here and talk.

Don't tell me to shut up either. Not everybody that comes on here is required to praise thier dakotas. Blah, Blah, Blah....the old excuse, "the 3.9 isn't meant for racing"...most other motors aren't either but they outperform the 3.9. The 3.9 doesn't even do well as a truck motor.Put a load on it or tow a trailer and it really bogs down. Every 4.3 powered S-10 i've ever been in would blow the doors off my 3.9. The 4.3 is a beefy motor. The 3.9 is cheap. Quit trying to convince us how great the 3.9 is cause it won't work. You should go away, not I. You think your truck is great, thats fine. We think ours sucks. Thats fine also. You have your opinion and we have ours. Stop being so nasty about it. If you can't bear to hear negativness about 3.9's, then don't read stuff on this post. Everybody is so dam touchy on this website. The usual dodge owner inferiority complex i guess.

Had a truck that had 440 cid, 1125 foot pound of torque, a super charger sittin' on top of it and a turbo pushing air into that....got about 3 1/2 miles to the gallon on a good day.....one slight difference between trucks....it weigh almost 20,000 pounds unloaded and carried 45,000 pounds when loaded..... boy it was a good DUMP TRUCK!!!! I was pi$$ed cause whenever I wanted to race that Honda they always beat..........oh well.

I got my 1997 4X4, 3.9 Dakota (109,000 miles now), and have used it to pull a small horse trailer and it pulled like a dream. It was just right for what I wanted. I also use it on the Ranch where I live and have had to pull my husbands 1997 Ford F250 Diesel (Crew Cab) out of a mud hole once or twice when He got stuck. My truck has not been stuck once since I have owned it. I am pretty happy with it, despite it's problems. I am confident that once I get the bugs worked out it will run just as well as it did when I bought it.
I love my TRUCK!

My 99 3.9 dakota shall soon be gone....yea!!!!!finally!!..... i'm going to throw a party that day....no more stress about all the problems and noises it makes......no more 4 banger power and big V-8 gas milage.......next vehicle i get, the first act i shall make will be to put a "piss on dodge symbol" on the rear window.....i used to actually have one on the rear window of my dakota for awhile....lol...

get a what?? lol...yep, i had the sticker....i'll probably go back to a Buick........my last car was an 89 Lesabre that had 200,000 miles when i traded it in and STILL ran better than my Dakota at 0 miles.....lol....it towed trailers better than the dakota.....did everything better than the dakota....was very quick as well....i'm just going to stick with a car till i can afford to get a real truck as in a full size truck, preferably with the bow-tie on the grill :C)
