This is actually for my dad but when his 94 dakota gets between 1/4th to 1/2 tank of gas, his truck stops, just cuts off! No service lights come on or nothing. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Sounds like the fuel pump is bad since it's fuel level related...I'm guessing it's overheating since the pump is inside the fuel tank and is cooled by the fuel.

O2 sensor wouldn't only mess up when the fuel gets low...have you noticed your gas mileage suddenly get horrible and does it idle really rough (running waaay too rich)? I highly doubt it'd the O2 sensor though.

I'm still gonna say it's fuel related...though if the pumps been changed twice before, it's probably NOT specifically there. Maybe the pump has bad wiring or something?

the fuel pump in my 2001 3.9 dak floats in the gas tank and is cooled by the gas.i asked my mechanic why it makes more noise than usual sometimes he said less fuel equals higher temp and more noise. if its not your pump i'd say something attached to it like wireing sinse it is directly affected by your fuel level. there may be a pressure sensor in there but i am just an amature so i dont know.

yes it's that darn fuel pump and wiring harness. Models from 94 to 96 had poor designed pumps. Overload the pump (heatwise) and the wiring suffers. My mechanic confirmed the same problem on mine (96). You can do 2 things. 1 replace the pump and never go below 1/4 tank and in your case i recommend replacing the wiring. 2 change the injectors and change the pump to a 360 engine pump (modifications involved). Your choice.
