Hey, Larry.. I have seen many posts by you and have received great info on how to get more power from my 3.9. I've been struggling recently deciding whether to put money into my 3.9 4X2 or just to save up and buy a V8 4X4. My question for you is what makes you stick with the 3.9 rather than say the 5.2 or 5.9? I don't really tow anything. I help people move and have put an engine or two in my bed but thats about all. I am having a hard time determining how much power I really need in a truck. I guess it's my EGO fighting with my COMMON SENSE. I'm sure we all experience those. I wan't the best (5.9) but don't need the best lol. If you have any words of wisdom, they'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just fell in love with the V6 and they are fun
to work with

The average rear wheel hp on the V6 is around
120 130 thats one that runs well most around 110

With just the bolt ons and some good tuning my
92 mag is pullng 189 at the wheels gets 20 to 25
mpg in the summer and is fun to drive thats about
the same as a 360 with less weight of course less
rotating mass there is less torque than a V8 but
who realy needs that for a daly driver this is my
95 4X4 getting that kind of mileage with 3.91
gears 42RH with a TCI shift kit

Bigger TB
1.7 rockers
cold air
headers and a low restriction muff
will give you around 150 155 RWHP
a 30 to 40 hp gain at the wheels thats around
50 60 at the crank so 230 318 250hp 360 power
can be had with less weight
250hp crank is around 200 at the wheels and thats
one that is running perfict most are lower around
180

Now mod the intake and upgrade the comp and 170
is not that hard to obtain and you won't know
there is a V6 under the hood they run so well and
than they also become very economical

Amen to that Larry, I love my 97 V6 DAK. It is easy to work on and as my daily driver, I still get 18-20 mixed driving and 20-22 highway.

Well I guess i'm keeping the v6 then. I have a question... will the parts I use on the 3.9 be interchangeable on the 5.2? Of course headers wont but what about the throttle body for example? I guess when this engine decides to poop out on me I could opt for the 5.2 and it should hook up with no problems. If you upgraded all of these things on the 5.2 you should get the same results right? Thanks.

Larry I had a small problem deciphering 230 318 250Hp 360 Power. Anyway, how much HP does your 3.9 have. And what is meant by a stroker kit? What kind of HP can be obtained by doin all of these things?

Yes you get the same resaults on a 5.2 as the 3.9
but about 25% more on the V8

My new stroker is pulling 309/322 at the wheels

The 318 is rated at 230hp
the 369 at 250
crankshaft hp a rule of thumb is .8

230 X .8 = 184 at the wheels
250 X .8 = 200

This is the loss through the drive train this
can be lowerd with higher stall converters and
lower gear ratios less loss

now go the other way 309 devided by .8 = 386 at
the crank but my loss is less with a 2200 rpm
stall and 4.10 gears I would say more like 350 at
the crank

One Bad Ass V6 with an attitude problem LOL
