 Subject: Evaporative Monitor?

My check engine light came on the other day at 84,300 miles. It went off the next day (but not before I spent $110 on an obdII reader!) Either way I got it in yesterday and I figured I'd see what that light was all about. It said I had a #2 cylinder misfire, alright, but the evaporative system monitor icon was flashing, which meant the system had not completed the system check. What does this mean? Does the circuit get interrupted when there's a malfunction? It didn't give me any code for the evap system, jsut the code for the #2 misfire.
