I am using the pureolator breather that is the stock replacement for my truck. I have no knowledge of the spectre performance breather. There's just a grommet in the crankcase that the breather simply plugs into. The the hose connects it to the air clearner. If you look at my website listed above, you can see the breather.
What made a difference for me, was replacing the grommet and hose (for the breather and pcv). Mine was becoming deteriorated and was causing rough idle issues. Since replacing it, the truck has been idling smoother.
