Subject: which throttlebody?

Message:
I have a 98 cc 4x4 dakota, which has a jba 3" cat back and 3" pa body lift. I was looking into liftiung the truck higher, but I've decided I want to build to motor out a little more to handle bigger tires better. I found an awesome intake from intense performance, decided on a superchip programmer, found jba headers, and accel plugs and wires. But i'm stuck over whether I should get the fastman 46mm throttlebody or the f&b 48mm billet throttlebody. The fastman is cheaper, but will the 48mm give me more power? Is it too big and rob me of horsepower? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You will get more out of the F&B...not sure if it's a super noticeable difference though.

If the manifold ports are less than 48mm, you won't realize the full potential.

I just logged on to hughesengines.com, and they sell the ported magnum intakes, however they match their throttlebodies which are 50mm. Can I still put a 48mm throttlebody on these intakes. Has anyone run hughes engines throttlebody/manifold combo?

As long as the intake ports match or they are larger, it doesn't matter. Some people have told me that their bores are larger than what I have measured. You might want to measure your own manifold and see if it is at least as big as big as the TB you plan on putting on it.

The F&B shows about 2 hp and 8 foot pounds of
torque over the fastman no not noticeable the
F&B is for the guy squising everything he can
out of his motor

The hughes intakes for the V6 are only 48mm

I am running a hughes stage 2 with a 50mm F&B
on my new stroker but I had the bores opened to
50mm

Have never tried the 50mm TB but huges tells me
they do work good with the 48mm bores

4.0 stroke
10.5 to 1 pistons
Hughes stage 2 intake 50mm bores
F&B 50mm throttle body
@.050 220/228 .520/.540 around 272/284 114 seperation
crower 1.6 rev kit
4.10 sure grip and a 2200rpm stall
A 518 TCI TransScat 220500 shift kit
309/322 at the wheels

works out to a 292 4.7 liter V6 and its fast
no 1/4 mile runs yet but a lot quicker than my
last stroker

comes on strong at 2500 3000rpm to about 5800

PurpleMonster, The F and B is the best throttle body out there for our v6's. If money is an issue a v8 throttle body with the air horns cut down and rounded off will provide some very nice gains. Just make sure the the torque step is left in place it reduces the throttle size to 48mm, even though the plates are 50mm. If you want the best the 48mm F and B is the way to go. I had a v6 tb bored out to 49mm, it worked great at higher rpms and started to loose low end torque.

92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

If a stock TB already flows more than the manifold can handle, why go to all the work of cutting off the airhorns, radiusing and polishing?

replaced my 3.9 injectors
with 5.2 injectors.
TBI injectors are color coded. the 3.9 uses 50PPH injectors,
the 5.2 has 65PPH units. it takes about a week of regular driving
for the computer to get over the shock trauma. Then things start to happen.
MORE POWER, BETTER MILAGE!!!!!!!!!
GOOD LUCK!

P.S

When you first change injectors the engine will run very rough for a few minutes.
That's because the pcm is correcting for the sudden
"totally rich" condition.
Just stand there and you should hear the results of your pcm in action.
the engine will suddenly start to smooth out on idle.
you will notice a lot less gas pedal required to attain the same speed as before.

Very simple, because it works. I put a v8 tb on my 97 after an MSD and achieved noticeabe gains. I took the v8 TB and did just as described above, cut off the air horns and rounded the the openings, this gave even more gains. I had not done anything to the intake manifold at the time.
