Hi, I have a 94 3.9 auto
Just put in a v8 throttle body and now when I put it in park from drive it idles at 1200 rpms, other than that it idles at 800 it used to idle at 650 which I'm pretty sure is normal. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

Thanks for any help!

Did you reset the PCM?

After a TB swap, if I remember correctly, your supposed to let the engine idle for 5-10 minutes without touching the gas or driving it. It will idle high during that period, then should track down...

yes I reset the pcm but not the way you described. I just disconnected the neg. battery cable turned the key to the on position but didn't start the engine, left it on for about 30 sec. reconnected the cable and that's it.

I will try what you said and get back to you.

Thanks.

Did you forget to reconnect a vacuum line (front of TB or on the side of the manifold)? Also, did you use a new TB gasket between the manifold and the TB?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you but I had to go get gas.
Todd I must have misread what you said cause you can't start the engine without the neg. battery cable connected so I just reset the pcm and then let it idle for awhile but it never went down.

Bernd yes I put in a new gasket and I didn't forget to reattach the vacuum hose.

Would this make a difference: I had to sand down the throttle plates a little bit because they were sticking but I didn't take off too much (there isn't any real big gaps between the plates and ports).

Yeah, thats what I meant, sorry for the confusion...

Wait, you now have a gap between the plates and the port? Even a small one will wack out things... Why'd you have to sand them?

I had to sand them down because they were sticking and I felt that I would have a hard time opening them up when gasing it. The gaps are really small, hardly noticeble, but I think I'm just going to put my v6 back in.

Thanks for everybody's help.
