I was wondering where the idle screw was on the 3.9 v-6 98 dakota. It's been idling a little low....

Thanks!!!!

Idle is not supposed to be set with a screw. You will mess things up if you tamper with the idle stop. If it's idling low, why not fix the problem instead of trying to mask it?

It should be 600 RPMs in drive. What are you getting?

Well it's a manual w/ 80k and in neutral it sits around around 700 but it likes to oscillate up and down a 100 or so rpms. when on the lower end of the spectrum the truck shakes more than I would like it to... So in leiu of the problem I installed a new cap, rotor, and plugs. Still the same thing happening though.

Also the air conditioner (compressor I think) likes to click on and off in about 5 second intervals and that is why the idle goes up and down. I wouldn't have thought that was the problem though???

Please help,
THanks!!

The A/C system is used to remove moisture when you run the heating system.

Actually, that's only in Defrost mode, not in Heating mode.

I agree, check the AIS system, that's often responsible for a floating idle. Turning up the idle speed just covers up the problem, and the SMEC may just compensate and put the idle back down.

Check also for vacuum leaks.

Bob, the air conditioner's primary function is to remove heat and moisture from the air.

if the cooling is set to MAX the compressor should NOT cycle unless, it is low on freon, or overcharged.

Right, what I mean is that the compressor comes on whenever you're in Defrost mode. It does not come on in Heat mode unless you push the A/C button and deliberately turn it on.

Well what I would like to get is one of those cleaner sprays you can spray down into the the throttle body while the engine is running. I talking to a guy today at a store and he said that all the cleaners they had should be used with the engine turned off.

I know such a product is made because Precision Auto Tune cleaned the TB on an old car of mine while it was running once. It smoked up the area and worked wonders for the idle....

It is not a good idea to disable the AC if it does dot run for long periods of time (all Winter) the orings and seals will not get lubricated. There is a quanity of special oil in the system that is carried by the circulating freon that lubes them keeping them from drying out which will result in a leak. them you will have to replace seals and recharge system , expensive to do
