I think most people say do one or the other...not both.

i would try both. if the pinging is too bad and you don't want to run 93 octane, then you can move the crank sensor back to stock position.

if it was me, i would do a combustion chamber cleaning with seafoam, get 1 range colder spark plugs and a 180 t/stat before doing both mods at the same time.

Good point daddio... most people get pinging without at least a 180*F thermostat. I'm running stock range plugs, 180*F thermostat and CPS mod. No pinging except once when I got bad gas.

Oh and I still use regular unleaded gas...no premium unless I'm feeling rich. lol

yeah, i've done the crank sensor mod and a 180 t/stat. no pinging at all on reg unleaded. i am going back to a 195. my gas mileage is sucking and my truck barley gets to the first line above 130 on the gage now. that's since i got my truck back from the body shop and they changed the radiator. now i have a radiator for an auto trans in my truck. i think it cools too good. i think that radiator might have come out of a V8 truck. i need to find out if they use the same rad for the 6'er and the V8.

You might put a scanner on your truck to see what temperature the thermostat is opening at. I went through 3 before I got one that opened at 181 degrees (a Superstant) one opened at 169 which is way to cold, the thermostat should control the temp no the radiator.

xmr, before my accident and them changing the radiator, my truck got up to temp fine. but now, i think i have a radiator from a V8 auto truck instead of a V6 manual that i am supposed to have.(i don't know if the radiator's are even different) i think i'll go back to a 195 t/stat and then try the IAT mod again, as my truck didn't like both the 180 stat and the IAT at the same time.

Joe, I'm running a Jet stage 2 chip and the CPS mod at the same time. I have a cold air intake, flowmaster 70 series muffler and I run a 180 thermostat that runs about 185 according to Auto scanner. I am able to run regular gas with setup and the truck is very responsive.

92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.
