the torsion bar setup on the front end of a dakota is really really $hitty all the way around. if you look at the swing arms you have about 2 inches of swing between the bump stops. however, if you want you can adjust the torsion bars to hold the front at ride hight with the plow. and your "chevy" is probably a full size, stick it on an s-10, i want to know if they squat the same?

Don't be afraid to crank up the adjustment on the torsion bars. Got about 2" lift out of mine that way, and it carries the plow much better. Something you can do with a torsion bar set up that you can't with regular springs - there's one way torsion bars are better...

when you increased your torsion and got your lift out of it did it change your tire angle and wear the inside of your tire? i have been thinging about doing it but dont want to unevenly wear my tires.

Wouldn't a front end alignment solve that anyway?

you see a front end alignment only solves when your tires arent all tracking in the same direction, what i am talking about is the angle your tire sits at in relation to the road. when your suspension compresses with a swing arm your tire moves in an arc pattern, in putting more torsion in the system it makes the truck "pigeon toed" and would wear the outside edge of the tire...or at least should.

yes,but a alignment will take care of that,

what do you think the plow weight is doing, when it drops the front 2"s

im talkin about without a plow, i want to lift my truck and i dont want to wear my tires unevenly, with the plow when you add the torsion you bring it back to normal ride height. i dont think you understand the geometry behind the suspension system..(this is why when you buy a lift for a ifs suspension they give you new steering knuckles/spindles)

Go to the Timbren web site and see if they make aeolean springs for your truck. I have had a set on my truck for the last three years. 5 minute installation, no tools required, lifetime warranty, makes the ride a little harder but saves the springs, and no worries about alignment

Yes, I got an alignment right after raising it, no uneven tire wear problems. An alignment adresses several variables (castor, camber, toe), one of which will change with the added height. I end up rotating tires twice a year since I run a different combo in the winter, my tires wear perfectly even.

I have a Western 6.5' unimount on my 96 4x4, I used for the first time this winter. I got 2k torsion bars, gas shocks all around and set it up almost level. With the plow and a load of blocks at the tailgate mine sets and plows good.
