Subject: Stalling under braking

Message:
My 2001 V6 Dakota has an issue with hard breaking and low fuel level. It started stalling under hard breaking when under a 1/4 tank and is now working its way up to about 1/3 tank. I suspect that the pick up has fallen off inside the tank or something. Anyone heard of this before, it is definatley fuel level related.
Thanks
Randy

Hey Randy,

It could be water sloshing around on the bottom of the tank, but that would have to be a LOT of water. "Drygas" only costs a couple bucks and trying a couple cans of that in the gas sure wouldn't hurt...

Another possibility is it could be something to do with the sending unit/fuel pump in the tank though. In these trucks, the fuel pump, sending unit, and fuel filter are all one unit on the top of the tank. Unfortunately the only way to check this part is to drop the tank.

Since the drygas is the cheapest and easiest, that would be a good place to start and with any luck it might just take care of it...

here is a tip, keep the tank above a 1/4 and just fill when you get below half a tank. then all is well and you dont have to drop the tank in the middle of winter.
