I have a 1990 Dakota LE 3.9 V6 with about 150,000 miles on it. A couple weeks ago I went out after work to go home, started her up, but it was running extremely choppy. The idle was going crazy. I thought it might be something with the cold (it was about -15F)but after letting it run for a while, constantly tapping the gas to keep it running, the problem stayed. So i tried driving it but the engine cut out so badly I couldn't go faster than 10mph. It would also shake badly and die if I didn't give it some gas in park or drive. I brought it to the shop and they replaced the EGR valve, coil, and TPS. I got it back and it worked for about 3 days, then even colder weather came through (-20,-25F) and one morning I go start it and it is doing the exact same thing. I brought it in again, now they want to replace the throttle body. The curious part is that the weather warmed up so I decided to just drive it to the shop to avoid towing and after about 2 miles of stalling and sputtering, it drove fine the rest of the way there. They say a new TB runs about $400, but does anyone out there have a problem like this? If so, do you agree that the throttle body would be the best bet? I didnt pay much for the truck, so I would hate throwing a total of $800 into it and still not have it fixed. Please help me. Thanks

its not the throttle body,

i,m thinking maybe the throttle body is icing up,try unhooking the outside air to the air breather, water in the fuel, fuel filter, weak fuel pump, moisture in the dist cap

all things that the cold could bother

Well I replaced the throttle body and that seems to have fixed my problem.

Maybe IAT was replaced with it , or MAP
or Idle Air Control ?
Otherwise just " dirty "...........
The throttle body is just that by itself
a body which has parts attached..
