I never feel the misfire its got a slight roughness at idle. The code is intermitent i drove 25 miles to work without triggering it then im in my car 5 mins at lunch and it pops on. I dont know what else to do, im thinking maybe a top engine clean.

I JUST WENT THROUGH THE SAME THING WITH A #6 CYL
MISSFIRE.I JUST FINISHED WORKING ON IT TODAY.
A MECHANIC MENTIONED INTAKE LEAK,AND THAT MADE
SENSE.I REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD SET,THE
BELLYPAN GASKET,AND THE TB GASKET.MY TEST RIDE
WENT VERY WELL.THE FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS
ALL THE BOLTS TO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WERE LOOSE.
ALSO OIL IN THE MANIFOLD.THE VALVE COVER BOLTS,AND
NUTS WERE ALSO LOOSE.GOOD LUCK !!!

First, make sure that no 5 injector is pulsing, use a long blade screwdriver against the injector body and put your ear on the handle, should make a clicking sound. If that checks out, remove the fuel rail, and check and see if there is any trash in the rail or the injector. Ive seen alot of these motors with misfire probs on the rear cyl. and dirt or trash was the cause, If thats clean, then check inside your intake for oil at the bottom of the belly pan, you might take some carbcleaner or somthing and spray around the intake and see if you have a intake leak, but personally im leaning more towards a clogged/partially clogged injector.. Also what year is this truck?

even tho you put on new plug, cap, rotor, and wires, it is still possible for one of those to go bad. only other thing is injector or compression. or the computer is bad or something in the distributor. if this thing comtinues to drive you nuts it might just be worth it to go to the dealer, or if you are really lucky and have a good independent shop nearby, go to them, and have them put it on an ocilloscope, not an OBDI/II code reader. the scope can find things the code reader might either mis-read or just plain miss.

Check compression, you might want to do a leakdown test also. You could have a sticking valve

I replaced my plugs and gapped 1 too far. I said screw it and bought the bosch +4 platinum plugs. Never had a misfire again. I actually got better gas mileage with the misfire, and autolite plugs. I drove over 500miles in 1 week with the misfire and even took it to the track.

I'd make sure your plug is gapped right. It worked for me.

To fix the notorious random multiple cylinder misfire code on mid 90s dodge trucks like the Dakota and the ram. After much research and headaches. It basically comes down to two things, secondary ignition crossfire which there is a TSB you can follow and it is, TSB18-48-98. It has to be followed exactly or it wont help. The second thing has to do with the engine not having enough dedicated grounds. The first aftermarket ground you should add is on the left fuel rail going to the windshield wiper motor mounting bolt, the right rail already has a ground strap to the firewall. 2nd is off the ignition coil bottom mounting bolt to the web(side) of the frame.Make sure and use 12 gauge wire. This should fix most of yalls random misfire if you've ruled everything else out. NO CAR BEFORE MOPAR.

I had to chase down the same problem in my truck. I
changed all the ignition parts and still nothing. Did a
compression test and found that cylinder low. After a
leakdown I narrowed it down to an intake valve but
unfortunatly mine was leaking because of a crack in the
head between valves so I had to replace the head. But like
they said I would definitly do a compression test

If you have read my past recent posts, I also had #5 misfire. I tried everything and finally replaced the PCM. I now have over 100 miles on er' and no misfire. The reason why I replaced the pcm is becuase one morning it just died going down the road. no spark, so I smacked the pcm on the fire wall and she started right up. a few blocks and she did it again, so I smacked it again. did this two more times on my way home. so I parked her and bought a reman. pcm for 185 bucks. good luck, I feel for you becuase it was a long three months changing tune up parts, injecter, tps, ais, map and pick up coil.
