Who makes a decent sounding exhaust system for a gen1 V6 Dakota? Every one I ever heard sounds like a cow with a gas problem.

Well, its hard to make an exhaust sound good if it's powered by a V6. A few good anmes to look at are Gibson, Flowmaster, and DynoMAx. I personally use the Dynomax Super Turbo 17748 on my 3.9 V6, and It's much more mellow and deeper than others i have heard. A simple replacement with this muffler in place of the stock one is sufficient. It sounds new and ricey for about 2000 miles, but after it burns in, it really sounds good, and I swear people believe it's a V8. It sounds awesome now.

Check out Spin Tech mufflers: http://www.spintechmufflers.com/spintech/spintechindex.asp

I installed one on my 2000 Dakota with a 3.9 and it sounded great (I have a 04 with 3.7 now). They are relatively quiet at idle and cruise speeds, and a pretty good bark when you get into it. Deep and throaty without the reverberation you get with Flowmasters.

I saw a video where someone who had a V6 Gen I or Gen 2...can't remember which...had a Dynomax Super Turbo 17748 on it. Sounded really nice...so I'll recommend it. I love my Flowmaster 40 although I dunno how much longer I'm gonna keep it... I'd like to go back to the dual look.
