I have a problem with my 91 Dakota 4x2 5 spd. I was driving to my gf's house the other day and I was in first I went to shift and couldnt get it into any of the gears! So I sat there if I let the clutch out it would die and if I tried to drive it, it would also just die. Then all of a sudden it started working again I'm like ok w/e I'll get it home later. Well I started driving home I had it in 3rd went to shift to 4th and nothing and I couldnt get it back into any gears but now when I let out the clutch it doesnt die. But I also notice that there is no pressure when I press the clutch in! HELP ME PLEASE!?!?!? I don't know much bout manny tranny's but I'm just guessing here would the problem be the clutch is out or what? Thanks Paul

Sounds like the slave cylinder or master cylinder of the clutch is bad. Shouldn't be a tough or expensive repair.

I had a 88 5 spd and i had a similar thing happen when i was in 1st position my it was neutral and if i tried for second and let the clutch out the truck would stall no matter what i did and when the tranny was in the neutral positon it was in first gear anyways what happened was a pin in the shift linkage had dropped out inside the tranny mine also worked sometimes you can see if that is it by removing the cover off the top of the tranny where your shifter goes into it there is 3 rods and little blocks on them with a pin in them to hold them in place
good luck
