I just replaced my thermostat today with a deep socket and a 8 " extention. I undid the 2 thermostat housing bolts, then used a magnet to get the bolts out of the way. Then all you need to do is pull the Raditor hose and housing up. I then used a old screw driver ( That I sharpened ) to remove the gasket. I used a new ( self adhesive type ) replacment gasket, and bolted it all back together. NO leeks at all , and it did get the heater to blow a little hotter.
