I own a 2001 Dakota V6 4x4 and when it gets below freezing outside, I cannot get the truck to shift out of park...any ideas why this is happening? Thanks.

my personal..non-expert thinking would say you need a tranny fluid flush? possibly the fluid is thin and doesnt get pumped through the valve body correctly

webos, not being able to get the transmission out of "Park" is a mechanical problem, not a fluid or valve problem.

You need to follow the linkage down to the transmission and see if there are any problems along the way. If there are none, you will still have to open the tranny and check the linkage to the pawl that locks the drivetrain.

Try this: Before selecting P with the shifter, put it in nuetral and set the parking brake. Take your foot off the brakes and let the truck set back into the emergency brake and stop. Now put it in park. When you come out in the morning the next day, the pall wont be stuck in park and you can easily shift through the gears. Sorry if I mispelled "pall".

CP, I thought that there might be a possibility of being parked on an incline, but I figured everyone knew about that.
