I recently bought a 1995 Dakota Ext. Cab and i needed to replace the tranny in it. after i replaced it, it seemed to me that it should be a lot more snappy than it is. it seems as though it takes forever to accelerate. i was wondering what the problem could be.

Also, was it 'snappier' before you did the Transmission?

it is an automatic and it has 100,000 on it. The tranny before wouldn't shift into 3rd gear.

Ok, is it downshifting like it should under accelleration?

I'd give it a tune up, check the compression, stuff like that. 100,000 miles isn't a -ton- of miles for an engine that was properly maintained, but it is still a lot of miles.

the 3.9 is a pretty snappy engine isn't it though. i put it down to the ground and it shifts really fast and by the time it gets to 3rd it is pucked out and takes forever to get goin. its top speed is only like 80 right now

Well, mine is. I'd give it a tune up and a compression check.

Check/change the spark plugs
Check/Change the spark plug wires
Check/Change the Distributor Cap/Rotor
Check all fluids
Check/Change Air Filter Element

While you've got the plugs out, give it a good old compression test. Minimum Compression for the '97-99 3.9L is 100psi with no more than 40psi difference between cylinders. The closer you are to 100psi, the less performance. But I wouldn't be surprised if you just need a tuneup.
