 Subject: royal purple

Yea i will have to change my oil soon, but i wanted to know if royal purple oil is really what everyone says it is. Its always shown on powerblock on tv, but i dont know if it is really good. If any has used it was there any improvement in the engine?

I have heard alot of good things about it. I am getting ready to switch to synthetic and am trying to decide on Amsoil or Royal Purple. I guess they are both top quality synthetics but for me RP is more readily avaliable and a couple bucks a quart cheaper too.

The availability is the big issue for me as well for amsoil. I've made this point manytimes in the past with the amsoil man. They should look into getting some chain stores to sell it.

Royal Purple is a TRUE Synthetic Motor Oil and a good oil, but their 5w-30 tends to thin out very quickly. If your choice is Royal Purple, go with RP 10w-30, it will have less of a tendancy to thin out.

Amsoil Is Available In Some Stores
Amsoil is available in some stores -- mostly high performance speciality shops -- that lean more towards quality (for building performance and race engines, or an owner that appreciates superior products) than to a "price point" retail store (i.e. Walmart, etc.). I do know quite a few NAPA Stores that carry Amsoil (my cousin for one).
In the beginning, Amsoil, being a small speciality oil manufacturer, could never compete with the big guys for shelf space. So, Amsoil started as a multi-level marketing company, also know as MLM, and once they decided upon this concept they could not change or 100's of Independent Dealers would loose their business.
If you see Amsoil on the shelf, the retail store works in the same capacity as an Independent Dealer --- and a lot of retail stores would rather carry higher mark-up oils.
Recently, two large and very well-known chain stores wanted to carry AMSOIL and were turned down. One of these wanted to place an initial stocking order in the millions of dollars. Amsoil WILL NOT undercut it's Independent Dealer network and sell to National Chains.

Amsoil is available via catalog and is shipped UPS from the nearest warehouse / distribution facility. Amsoil only charges what UPS charges and adds nothing to the bill for shipping / handling.
FYI --- Amsoil Synthetic Lubrication (oils, gear lubes, and ATF) sales have almost doubled in the last three years. Our manufacturing facility is increasing the base stock storage capacity from 1 million gallons to 1.6 million gallons (a 60% increase), and two new 50,000 gallon blending tanks are being installed. Plus, we added another warehouse/distribution facility bringing the total to fifteen (15).
