hi guys,
I've been wondering what kind of difference the brass contacts make in the cap as opposed to the standard cap? I know its easy to change and cheap to do,$15 bucks or so, but is it worth the time considering my cap is relatively new? I'm looking to pick up as much mileage as I can.

I don't think you'll see any significant difference at all. The conductivity of brass vs aluminum is not a big factor at 35,000 volts. If you were measuring low-level currents at low voltage it would be important. I think a good free-flowing exhaust and cold air intake would do a lot more, and regular tuneups.

free flowing exhaust is already taken care of, and as for a tune up, the truck has completely all new sensors, the only sensor i have not changed is the crank sensor and oil pressure sensors.

93dak4x4,

I agree with Bob Lincoln on this, at the high voltage you will notice no difference in performance. The best thing to do is change the cap and rotor at 20,000 mile intervals in running the stock ignition.

92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

Over time, the aluminum builds up a thick coating that is non conductive from the heat of the spark (on a microscopic level). Aluminum oxide is what spark plug insulators are made of. Coating eventually gets so thick, that you can break chunks of it off. This really doesn't cause much of a problem because it takes a long time and the spark can find just a slightly longer path around it. A few minutes can easily clean it up with a knife or just buy a new one.

Distributor is at rear of engine behind air cleaner, set low. Follow the plug wires.

yea, they put the coil where the fan can blow dust and water on it. Whoever thought of that idea!
