Hey everyone. I have a 97 Dak. V-6 2 wheel drive, ext. cab. I've noticed on ALOT of posts that the ball joints seem to be a weak spot. Is this only on the 4x4's? Do I need to be concerned about mine at 130,000 miles? Thanks for the replies.

I have a 97 DAK V6 2 wheel drive with 170,000 and have had to replace both lower ball joints and one upper ball joint. Also had to replace the upper controlarm bushings. The are to close the the exhaust manifold and they get fried.

Stevevdak Did you do the replacement yourself or did you have a shop do it? How tough for the "average" mech?

I do a lot of my own work, but do not have the tools for large projects like this. I had a shop do a 2 inch drop of the front and while they were in there, they found the one bad upper ball joint and I already new the bushings were bad and had a new set for them to put in while they had it broke down. I went back to the same shop for the lower ball joints. They installed my Moog ball joints.

Just got in from the garage. I blew a valve spring and bent a valve. Got the heads back from the machine shop and got 1 torqued down and the other ready to go on.

More fun tomorrow night.
