I just bought a 96 Dodge Dakota with the V-6, auto trans. the check engine light is on, by turning the ignition on and off I got a code of 11 and I took it to Autozone, and the used the scan tool and retrieved the code P1391 which means there is a intermittent loss of crankshaft position signal, the vehicle runs great, there are no problems, to try to trouble shoot it, i disconneted the Crankshaft Position signal and then the vehicle would not start, so I figure that the CPS is good, need help with this please, I also disconnected the battery, it shut the check engine light off, but about 5 to 10 miles later the light comes back on. might just take the bulb out. LOL

the car is not going to start with the cps unhooked period =)

Checke the voltage going to the cps, is it steady? cps is most likely bad, its not terribly uncommong for those things to go out
