My a/c pump just started making some horrible noise, and there is a metal type dust all over it. Does anyone know if I have to replace the pump or that clutch thats inside. Also could i just disconnect it and run a belt for a no a/c truck.. It's a 99 3.9 Dak.... Thanks

Yes, thats what it seems to be. I looked on Rockauto.com. $737 for a new pump or 424 for a reman..OUCH!! Thats why I asked if the clutch can be rebuilt?? Looks like it might get disconnected till summer. Or when I hit the lottery....lol..

I used a 905K7 belt to bypass the A/C on my 99 3.9. Now I need to see if I can swap just the clutch.

Thanks Ron, I bought the 884k7 belt yesterday and it didn't fit. Now I will try the 905k7. Let me know if you get that clutch rebuilt..

You're welcome. I am a little baffled with the compressor. The pully is siezed but the center bolt on the clutch turns with a wrench. Doesn't make sense to me. I'm still not sure if I can unbolt the front of the compressor without losing the freon. Might have to bite the bullet and break out the credit card.

I got lucky, I found a pump at a local bone yard today for $75. The a/c needed to be recharged anyhow. It took me about 35 mins. Took the belt off(of course needed the tensioner and had to run back to the store)took the 4 bolts off, undid the lines. It came right off. Put the new tensioner on, threw the belt back on. Fired up and no noise. I put 2 cans of freon in and the clutch engaged.
