Check fault codes http://allpar.com/fix/80s-codes.html, check for vacuum leaks.

Like Bob said, check the codes to see if there is any problem code reading.I converted your gas mileage to be 16-19.2 mpg, which really isnt that bad for any year dakota from what i have been seeing.I'm not sure of your tank size, but was going on it being a 25 gallon tank. You might also check vacuum leaks, as Bob also said,PCV valve, fouled plugs, air cleaner filter, tire pressure, all the usual things that have slight affects on you mileage. Also, being in Canada, with very low temperatures, always let your engine warm to full operating temp. before driving it. I don't know if you live in a higher altitude or not, but there may be a problem with thinner air and the engine compensating for it with a richer fuel mixture. You could also invest 50 or 60 bucks in one of those Tornadoes to insert into your air passage. I have heard great things about them improving mileage by 15-25 percent.

ace, that tank is porbably max. 20 gall.
300 kilo's is like 186 miles on 20 gallons is like 9.3 mpg. 250 km's = 155 miles.
have you tuned up recently? oil change? check tire pressure. could have a faulty "new" O2 sensor. lots of possibilities. start small and work from there.

The Dakota tanks are 15 or 22 gallons, depending on which your vehicle came with. So 250-300 km equals roughly 150-180 miles, which is between 7 and 12 mpg. This is horrendous. My 92 Dak with V-6, 4-speed auto, club cab and 4WD is rated 16 mpg city, 20 highway, and I get 17-18 city, 20 highway. So a tuneup, if not done recently, is the first step, along with checking codes.

That tornado thing is a piece of crap, don't waste your money. It is merely an obstruction in the airstream. Swirling the air before it hits the fuel is a useless exercise. With your bad mileage, you have a serious problem to fix, that you should direct your money to, instead of making hucksters rich.

The gas tank capacity should be stamped on the side of the tank.
My 1991 Dak, with standard tranny and regular size bed gets about 19 to 20 MPG city and some highway driving, that is with an empty bed except for the tool box.
My Dak has a 22 gal. tank.
My neighbor's 1987 Dak also has a 22 gal. tank.

take it to a shop that offers engine flush service. It's helped my gas milage considerably.

Last fill up I got 19.4 mpg, that's combined city and highway. I'm talking driving 17 miles on I-75 each way of Atlanta traffic. Total daily driving to/from work is about 46 miles. Prior to this and tune up and new o2 i was getting 14-15 city - driving 8 miles each way speeds between 35-45 with no bumber-to-bumper traffic like I have now.

My '03 gets 15 MPG no matter how I drive, ever since I bought it new.

That's some crappy mileage for a V-6 on the highway.

I have a 93 dakota club cab 4x4 with the 3.9 and I can pull 18 if I drive like a grandmother in a snow storm. the odd thing is that sometimes my mileage fluctuates...ON THE SAME TRIP. I recently drove a 500 mile trip and for the first half tank averaged a hair over 19. rest of the trip I pulled about 17.
