Headers on the Dakota. What type gaskets work the best. I know when I had them on my 4.3 chevy I had to replace them every month what a pain. At 25.00 a gasket it was not cheap. Want to know before I install them on my Dakota. Thanks for the input.

The Fel Pros work for me and they only cost like $10 for a pair I
think. As long as you tighten them down good and recheck
after a couple weeks you shouldn't have to keep tightening
them. Make sure you use lock washers on the header bolts.

G'day great thread!! I am looking to buy headers also, have done intake, plugs, wires, cap & rotor all advise from this site. Am planning on getting V8 TB also, was going to go with JBA or Gibson throught stainless would be better from past experience with racing alfa I had, my question is about cats, I have very little knowledge about them my alfa was pre-unleaded gas I have 2002 3.6L V6 5 speed and there is one cat at end each side of exhaust manifold with O2 sensors connecting into what appears to be a 3rd cat then the muffler. What is the purpose of the 3rd cat and can it be removed without causing error codes.
Sorry about long thread would appreciate any help.
Regards

They used to be avaliable from the dealer in a performance kit for premagnum 3.9's from what I have seen. They are rare and are out there. You can find them. Try ebay once and a while. Good luck.

They make them for your 88 Dakota. You can find them at truckperformance.com. They are Edelbrock. I hope you see this. Glade to help you.

Mark: You need to be real careful with your advice, buddy. That was a dangerous post. DO NOT USE LOCK WASHERS. Use cone washers for headers. Headers need special hardware due to intense heating and cooling cycles. These are washers that come stock. Take a look at yours. They are bowl shaped and designed to grab as temps go up'n'down. If you don't use them get them. Good way to create an exhaust leak in the engine bay. Only post what you know.

i see youre swapping to an 8 cyl. was wondering if you were thinking about selling some of the mods for the six, particularly the headers. sorry to have to be a jerk like this, but i really would like a set, and it just seems like a good idea to ask.
thanks
mike

so i have a 2000 dodge dakota sport with the 3.9
and i have true dual straights with 6 inch tips and
3 1/2 inch piping all the way back to the tips and
it sounds really nice how it is and i was wandering
if jba shorty headers would make it any louder and
have a deeper tone
