I read under the "Everyone's Age" post that you've taken about 300# off your truck. Besides the hole in the bed and replacing the leaf springs w/ ladder bars and coils, what all has come off the truck? Have you done anything like "swiss cheese-ing" frame members & stuff?

Being a racer too, I'm kinda interested in lightening my 4200 CC.....

no holes in the frame! (that would negate any structure integrity). I have the whole in the bed, of course you already mentioned that. Removing the leafs didn't really save weight because i added ladderbars, panhardbar, shock crossmember and such. But i did remove old shocks, shockmounts, leafs, rear leaf mounts, spare tire, spare tire assembly, heat sheild (except one by gas tank), BUMPER (that sucker weighs a lot), tailgate guts, romoved inside of tailgate and sides (cut everything off so i only had the tailgate skin), a/c compressor, a/c lines, condensor, evaporator, center console, bed liner (those weigh more than you would think), and i think that might be everything. I have future plans on removing more stuff up front like fender wheels and relocating my battery and such.

actually that all probably adds to more than 300 pounds but i don't want to over estimate.

Oh yeah... forgot about your A/C post earlier. That's a lot of weight. Ever since I was rear-ended in my Gen II truck, I am a believer in the whole "rear bumper" thing. But heat shields... that could save some weight. They've pretty much hung them everywhere on this new body style. Good idea about the tailgate.... I took my tailgate and spare off at the track and put it on the scales.... 100 lbs worth of weight between the two pieces. Wow! Too bad it's in the bak where leaf-spring guys need it.

honestly, i probably took too much weight off with an open differential. i spin one tire like mad... at the track i spin my slick into second gear and with street tires on pavement i have left a 108 ft black mark with a 275/60/15 dunlop gt qualifier. but it was a dunlop gt qualifier.
i was also rearended with my rolled pan... knocked the f@cker right off, but i still don't like those stock bumpers.

I used to have the 3.21 open rear on my 1992 V-6 and after all my mods, I could spin the right rear for about 100-120 feet. And then when I pulled second (5-spd) it would do it all over again. Fun up to a point, but it's hell when you're trying to bracket race.

You can see two photos of what I mean at this link:

The two stripes in the top photo were from two different burnouts earlier in the day. HeeHeeHeee

Maybe it has something to do with that big white bottle in between the seats. I hear there's a magical gas in those bottles that makes your tires lose a little grip as you head off into the distance.

Something about a power adder or some such......

LOL!
that was with out the juice... i couldn't use the stuff with those tires. i used it once at the track with the gt qualifiers... hit the juice at 2500 rpm and sent my truck sideways for the rest of the eight mile... open diff though.
