After replacing the starter, computer and fixing a wire in the harness I was able to get my 93 v6 3.9L truck running. But after 3 days my battery died. I replaced it and after a week, the second one died also. It looks like a burn mark on top of the battery. Possible overcharge??? What could be causing this. I know my son hooked up a stereo and said that he bypassed the fuse box...but I told him to disconnect, which he said he did. Could this cause the problem?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

something is draining those batteries, maybe he wired up an
amp that doesn't have a remote turn on from the stereo so it
just runs all the time?

otherwise sounds like you have a short somewhere

i've never seen a burn mark on an overcharge but i've seen
battery acid all over one that was charged too much, stays wet
on the case leaves white splotches on other materials

To find out if there is a drain on the battery, disconnect the negative terminal and connect a tester to the cable and battery terminal, make sure everything is turned off, including the cab light(close door or take the bulb out) If the test light is illuminated there is a drain on the battery. Pull every fuse, one at a time, and replace until you find the one that makes the light go out. and go from there. if something is wired directly to the positive battery terminal like an amp would/should be, pulling fuses will not find the problem.

Is your battery arcing out on your hood? Maybe you need to cover the posts of the battery & see if that helps.

furball69, that would be a very long process. I would suggest checking what woody said and also having your electrical system checked.

furball69, you also forgot that the ecu is constantly on, so there's always going to be a drain on the battery, whether or not there's a problem with the electrical.

Check the alternator to make sure that it is charging properly.
