Subject: Gas tank...and one other question.
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 1993 dodge dakota v6 3.9L but I bought it just turned 17 and wondered how big the gas tank was on it no owners manual...figured maybe id get lucky and one of you would know ;)

Also The gas gauge doesnt work and i noticed if I brake when the gas tank is relatively full the gas gauge jumps...do i really have to replace the WHOLE gas pump?

And lastly I have one problem with it when I drive it the battery gauge goes up but if I let it sit (turned off) the battery drains. Bad battery? dont think its the alternator because it seems to drain when turned off (yes all lgihts and stuff are off)

Thanks for your help if you can help me at all

I just go 200 miles then fill up....I get about 19 miles to a gallon was just curious on the gas tank size so i can see relatively how far I could really go on a tank. I think the floating thing in the gas tank is broke but the idiots at autozone said i need to buy a whole new fuel pump that piece isnt sold alone.

Any advice thanks again

Your battery situation seems like you need new battery cables. If they get corrosion in them ( in the center of the wiring)it will eventually eat all the way to the starter (from the battery) and cause a voltage drop.It will crank slow sometimes, may be it will crank fine most times, but when the wires get eat up enough,You'll be thumbing a ride,or hiking with Ted & Fred.

Hope this helps.

What tank is standard on a '94 Dakota Sport? It seems to be maybe a 15 - 15.5 gallon tank.

Lowest I've ever gotten it was 17.3 gals @ 89 octane. Used to run 93, but it seemed like a waste after my 17.7 1/4 time. My 2002 4x4 3.9 cc 5spd 3.55 has an 18 gallon tank. The sticker says 22, how weird. And everytime I fill it up, it goes about 1/4 a tank over my F mark.

M1ke, do you have a tachometer in your truck? if so, it's a crappy design in that the circuit board draws over 100 mA. No fault, it's just designed that way. You have to either rework it so that it runs off ignition feed only, instead of ignition and battery, or you have to pull fuse #6 (10 amp horn and tach fuse) when not in use. In winter, it can kill your battery in a week or two.

I have a 93 extended cab 4x4 and I get about 360 miles per tank. I have to put about 20-21 gallons in when I go that far. (I have the 22 gallon tank.)
