Subject: Got F&B TB put on
IP: Logged

Message:
I installed a F&B TB tonight and was not all that impressed. I reset the PCM, then took it for a quick test drive. It may have gotten up to speed a little quicker, but I did reach a new top speed of 95mph. I tried power breaking and that was not much better than stock. I did not try it on any hills so I do not know if that has changed. I have a K&N CAI on it. I hope it gets better as the PCM learns it. I have a 99 3.9l V6 4x4 Ext Cab, so I know I have a heavy truck but was expecting more from it I guess. I also have a super chip that I have not yet installed. Will I be as disapointed with this as I am with the TB so far?

You didn't say what size you bought. If it's a 2x48, you won't see difference between that and installing a v8 tb. If you haven't done any exhaust work, I would start there next and then some 1.7 rockers or a cam.

It often takes a combination of several mods in order to realize a difference. They all work together and individually each may not seem to accomplish anything.

opening up your intake with stock exhaust seriously limits any effects

If you can get a F&B TB and a Flowmaster for $75 bucks you got the deal of the year man. If it only cost me $75 bucks I would say yea it was worth it but it cost me more than that and it was just the TB.

Do you really think that you can get professional workmanship for $75? If you can, yes, it is worth it. I've seen pictures of somepeople's workmanship on eBay and that's just where it belongs, along with TB spacers and such.

Feels good when it all starts coming together, doesn't it.
