Just thought that I would point out that anyone who is using or running the msd ignition setup including the blaster coil that you really need to change the distributor cap and rotor button every 10,000 miles maximum... Even if your running the cap and rotor with the brass inserts which is what I am running...

I have roughly 12,000 miles on mine and went ahead and decided to change out the plugs, cap and rotor due to the fact that I have been loosing fuel mileage and power and not to mention that every time I would go to check how my plugs were burning they would burn tan for a while then back to black which is when I would have to readjust them and boy am I glad I did... The cap and rotor both were burnt grey and the brass inserts were all charcoaled black and porous looking "flaky and very rough" where the electrical current was moving through them... The rotor button was actually melted just under the little flexible piece of metal and the tip had burnt off atleast a good 1/16" to 1/8"...

So just a word to the wiser, replace both of these and if you wish to do so the plugs as well at a maximum of every 10,000 miles to avoid any electrical fires "from gaps being to wide and plastic overheating and melting" or simple to keep hp and fuel mileage up...

This will happen when you use a ignition system that uses low resistance wires like the MSD 8.5 superconductors. This wires have a very low resistance 50 ohms per foot, other ignition wires have higher resistance ie: Accel super stock have 500 ohms resistance per foot. The stock wires that dodge uses are several thousand ohms per foot. the stock wires will allow the plug wires, distributor cap and rotor to last much longer than with the MSD set. If you want the performance you use the MSD ignition and low resistance wires, the deliver much more current to the spark plug ( more energy and more complete combustion). The down side is changing your cap and rotor (as you mention above) at 10,000 miles or less with this ignition. I run the complete MSD ignition on my Dak and very satisfied with its performance.

7000 to 10,000 miles on the caps

You must remember the MSD strikes 3 times upto
about 2500 rpm than drops to 2 times than at 3000
rpm becomes a long duration hot spark.

MSD Multi Strike Discharge

Yes hard on caps, I run the elcheapo's from
Auto Zone you don't need the brass incerts cap
with this system it has pleanty of power

The brass incerts will help stock ignition systems
not needed with a MSD system

A good set of low resistance wires also helps
