Well I was attempting to clean the IAC solenoid today, something I could easily do on my own, if I could just get the god damn SCREWS OFF!!! First it took me an hour to find the right combination of adapters just to be able to line up the bit in that god-awful spot. Then as I try to loosen I find that one is pretty badly overtightened. Then disaster strikes... I strip the screw and drop my only torx 25 bit down into the engine compartment. Think it's time to take it to a mechanic?

Do u mean u dropped it down into the engine itself?

Well if u stripped the screw and have one off, just cut the head off of the stuck screw and use vice grips to take it out or... make the head of the screw u cant get out have square sides and use a wrench.

No I just dropped it into the engine compartment. Thank god it didn't go down inside the engine. It's just so annoying that manufacturers deliberatly make it such a pain to do simple things. They just want us to take it to the dealer so they can take our money for nothing. But I won't give in!!!!!

Don't try to cut it off. Take a drill just a bit smaller than the diameter of the screw and drill to the depth of the head. I will either just fall off and stick on the drill bit or you can easily knock it off. I believe it is a #10 screw, so a 3/16 drill should work fine. It will center itself in the torx hole.

As a side note, I have occasionally found myself turning screws in the wrong direction when working from the backside of a part. It is unlikely the factory could overtighten the screw since it bottoms against brass and plastic.

Get another torx 25 bit and try to get it out with that.

Just spend the extra 10 minutes and 99 cents for a new TB gasget and pull the TB off and then pull the IAC and clean TB while you are at it.
