What trans came in the '94 V6 Dakota (sport reg. cab)? All indications point to an AX-15, but there are some that say different. I went to the dealer, and they didn't know, in fact, they were going to put ATF in it 'til I stopped them. The '95 owners manual I have said AX-15, but it is a '94 truck (could be different).

Where can I positively identify what it is. The Chilton's says there is a tag on the trans, but is it an ID number or will it say AX-15??? I changed the fluid using 75-90 synthetic in what I was told is an AX-15, 2 weeks later the trans was being replaced. Coincidence?? Anyway, that little event heightened my paranoia, please help!!!!!

1994 V6's have the AX15 transmission, I know I have one. The V8's used the NV3500, you can tell the difference by the fact the AX 15 has a seperate bell housing for the clutch, the bell housing on the NV3500 is part of the transmission casting. The AX 15 takes 75W-90 API Grade GL-5 gear lubricant acording to the service manual. The NV3500 requires special mopar lube.
