Subject: any luck modding the 3.7?
IP: Logged

Message:
Has anyone had any luck with improving the performance of their 3.7 yet? I have added the drop in k&n, modified the airbox, removed front flap, and done a slight port and polish on the tb. All of this netted me 1-1.5 mpg worse and no noticable gains. The exhaust is next maybe that will help. anyone added exhaust to the 3.7 yet. I want something that sounds good and helps out . NO RICEY SOUND. Any suggs?

I have a cold air intake and a magnaflow on my '04 CC with stick. I went from 15mpg to about 18 or so. The magnaflow is louder than stock, but not too bad if you keep it under 2 grand.

Brucifer, where did you get the cold air intake? homebrew? cuz i have not found anyone that makes one for our 2004's with the 3.7. or did you get one of those ebay kits? so far the only thing i have found is the Jet Chip. online it says only for the Ram with the 3.7, but i called and they said yes, it will work on the Dakota also.

What kind of gains are they saying we can expect out of the chip?

I'v done a K&N drop in, and a Dynomax muffler. It sounds really good under 3k.rpm. a bit raspy the higher you go, I might change it to a Magnaflow later on. Hopefully Mopar will come ou with a compute upgrade for us soon!

Gary,

I used an Air360 Intake for the 4.7.

It's too long for a 3.7L and I haven't had the time to modify it. I just have the filter attached to the main elbow and it's sitting right over the exhaust. I need to cut it back and re-angle the second elbow. Even then, the filter is too large to fit down in that hole on the passenger side. Even with the current set-up, I noticed a crisper responce on the throttle. If you feel up to a home-brew, I would suggest it. The are anough pics online as to what it will look like in the end.....

Oh....

I went to Vegas a couple of months ago from Phoenix. I was right at the 'E' line and had 315 miles on the odo. Now with the mods and city driving, I am getting about 315 miles to the tankful.....

I have a 2004 RC SXT w/3.7, I haven't been able to find any intakes either but i just got dual exhaust put on the other day. i went with a "power pack" muffler, were more popular before but not as much now. It sounds great in my opinion. It's got good sound, not crackly or anything and it doesen't drone in the cab while ur driving, i had it ran with dual exhaust out the side, i really like it and had it done for 190

I have a 2004 dakota 3.7 I have a cold air intake,flow master
Exhaust and I run 90 octane fuel. It cost almost 90$ to fill up
and I get 350kms per tank. I didn't notice any power increases
with the exhaust but I did with the cold air kit sounds good too.
Also my friend has a v8 4.7 dakota and he has no problem
getting over 400kms per tank.
