I see that Mr. J&J auto's profile does not offer his e-mail address so I'm going to offer what is probably elementery advice....bear with me...STEP#1-verify it's getting spark by removing a spark plug wire, sticking a screwdriver into the boot and have someone crank over the motor while you hold the shaft of the screwdriver close to a good engine ground(a.c. bracket). Doing this in the dark is pretty cool. Step#2-Verify it's getting fuel...Now, I've never done this on a fuel injection system so be very careful....a screw-up with gasoline would suck! On my '97 model, there is a Fuel rail on the drivers side (left) of the throttlebody, on that fuel rail is a capped port with a "shrader valve"...like a tire valve stem....an adaptor and pressure gauge plugs in here. I'm not sure what the pressure should be, but 30+ lbs. is what I'd be looking for. A bad fuel pump plaqued me last year....but my truck would start fine and then "run out of gas" after about 10 minutes of driving. Step#3-Rotor inside distributor? Timing chain? Engine diagnostic equipment?.....good luck.

Do you have a Hanyes repair manual? Hanyes are pretty easy to understand. Autozone carries them or call them. 1-805-498-6703

Look in the " fusebox/distribution box "
under hood front drivers corner.
ASD relay may be problem / or the connections to
it . Also check the cable harness wiring from
there back to the firewall ( find a splice of
3 or 4 wires -=- inspect closely -=- probably
loose or not tight -=- redo with good quality
joiner or solder and tape up.
There is also [ i believe ] a connector in the
harness close to the gas tank { top of } feeding
the fuel pump / If first part didn't fix / check
and clean up this connector..

Sean Ferner, It would be helpful to know the mileage of your truck. Off the top of head, here are 3 things to check.

1. The computer must receive inputs from 2 sources within about 2 seconds or it activates the Auto Shut Down (ASD RELAY). The two inputs are the Crank Position Sensor, located on the passenger side back by the fire wall between firewall and exhaust manifold, this controllers vehicles timing. The next to check would be the Camshaft position sensor (used to synchronize fuel timing) this also can be refereed to as the distributor pickup, located in the distributor.

2. The GenII Daks had another problem in the wiring harness directly below the fuse box (the fuse box under the hood, 3 or 4 red wires come together, greenish colored corrosion can build causing loss of voltage to these connections.

Your problem may be more simple than that, pull a spark wire hold it near an exhaust manifold and have a friend crank over the truck to see if there is any spark, if not could be a bad coil.

On the driver side of the truck, under the hood, on the fuel injection rail, there is a "Schrader Valve" it looks like a valve stem with a valve cap on it, this is where you can check fuel injection pressure. The pressure should read 40 to 50 psi. Also check underneath the truck on the driver's side near the cab for a fuel filter, if this has not been changed, it can cause problems. It's always a good idea to change the fuel filter before winter sets in to minimize any winter problems.

I know this is alot of information, just hope it helps, check the obvious first, filter, spark plug wires. Get a Chilton manual on truck and read up, the more you know the more problems your can solve on your own.
