Well my '89 with 3.9 and auto has just 90,000 on it but the transmission has began shifting real hard into OD. Also it sometimes won't shift at all or rev's real high before it does. It also seems to not have as much power (slow accelertation). Any suggestions? Thanx!

There are solenoids in the trans that control shifting and may be bad. that is the problem with my 2000 which is right now being fixed. Not sure though if this is the problem on an '89. May want to check it out.

It could be the fuild / filter or it could be something worse. Every tranmission shop I've been to has offered a free inspection. It only costs time to take it to several to be diagnosed.

Dodge recommends changing the fuild/filter every 30,000 miles or 24 months.

Depending on the shop, I've seen 3 types of transmission services.
1) fluid exchange - drain most of the fluid and change filter (does not remove fluid from torq converter).
2) flush the system (back flushes the filter, removes all fluid)
3) remove all of the fluid AND change the filter.

If you have never had it done, considering the age and milage, i'd go for option 3. A good shop will check the fluid for any foreign matter.

Replace the O/D solenoid pack. $50 from the dealer, plus labor.

I actually serviced it about 9 months ago (new filter, no flush). I've been considering a backflush, but never thought of the solenoid.

Thanks for the help guys!
