Subject: Accelerator Pump Problems IP: Logged
Message: 1987, 3.9L Auto, 2WD.
I had my carb rebuilt recently, with in the last 4 months, but I'm still having problems with the accelerator pump. When I got the carb reinstalled I noticed that the pump shot wasn't working. I pulled the carb back off and the carb guy readjusted it. It worked fine for a while but now it's failing again. When I originally took it back to him to be adjusted he had said it was working fine on the bench. Is there something else that comes into play with the accelerator pump that would cause it fail? Vacum or fuel pump pressure maybe? Or is there something defective in the rebuild of the pump. The pump itself looks prety simple to me. It was a reputable carb shop that did the work. Could it be something simple that he's over looked?
I found this article from Holley http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/TechServ/TechInfo/TI-221.html Is it possible that the pump cam is worn or maybe the nozzle is clogged.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
