check your battery first... if it is old and dieing it might be your problem. check your spark plugs and suck related items as well.

I have been having similar problems and found it was my injectors were clogged. Not fixable by using injector cleaner. I pulled them out and found them caked with a rusty grit on the inlet side.

I have a 98 V6 and am having the same problem. I installed 3923's, so those are good, and the battery is good too. I will get in there and check out the injectors. Hope that cures the problem. I will post and let you all know.

hey guys i had the same poroblem with my 95. the fuel pressure regulator has a one way check valve and when it starts to go bad it bleeds off fuel pressure back into the tank while the truck is sitting, so it takes awhile for the pressure to build back up when turning over. the only problem is its in the tank.
you could hook up a fuel pressure gauge and see if it bleeds off to make sure thats the problem.
I ended up changing the complete fuel pump and filter while i had the tank down. not a fun job!!! it could also just be the fuel filter its self. hope this helps.

I went through this last summer on my '96, but
mine started taking 5-6 hits before it would
start. The short story is clogged injectors. Get
2 qts of Xylene @ the hardware store and
dump that in 1/4 tanks of gas. Costs about
$10. If you want the details read below . . .

First off check to see if you have pressure at
the fuel rail before you fire it up the first time
after it sits for a few hours. You can do this by
checking the test port, pull the cap and with a
rag and small screwdriver hit the valve and
see if you get a nice squirt. If so it's most
likely not a fuel delivery problem. If not, there's
no pressure at the rail which is why it's not
firing right up.

I pulled the tank and replaced the pump
assembly @ $270 as it, the regulator, and the
filter are all one unit and I couldn't get them
seperately. My thinking was that the regualtor
had failed and was bleeding pressure off.
Dropping the tank is a hassle to say the least.
Plan on it taking most all of your afternoon. If
you have a kind neighbor or buddy it would be
easier to just pull the bed off the truck and out
of the way to do the job and have better
access.

I did all of this and still no go!! So I mixed up a
witches brew of fuel injector cleaners off the
shelf as I was heading out on a 400 mile trip.
Thought I'd drive the injectors clean. No go
there either as after I got back she'd still balk
on starting after sitting for a few hours. So I
blew about $40 on cleaner during the trip.
Imagine how pissed I was!!

So the trucks being a b*%ch, I'm running late,
I'm pissed off, and I'm walking through the
garage and get an idea :-) On a 1/4 tank of
gas I dumped in 2 quarts of Xylene from the
gallon I had sitting there from painting. My
cost less than $10. I drove it to work, less
than 10 miles and it sat all day. Came back
out and she fired right up. Been running great
ever since :-)
