I am looking at buying an Scan Tool. Do all Dodge's (in particular the Dakota) support the ODBII interface. I have a 2000 Dakota. Any suggestions on an inexpensive ScanTool for this model ?

Many Thanks

I believe you have a " digital " odometer ?
You don't really need the scanner !
key on , off , on , off , on within 5 seconds
should see your 'P' codes
go to obdii.com for explanation of codes ! ??

If you want a true scanner got to autocheckup.com and they have a obd11 scanner for $219 or you can get it with a cable and software to download to a pc for $279. It will give you more than codes you can get realtime data from the pcm.

anybody know if thereis PC software that will allow you to adjust the PCM (like Superchips)? I am no software engineer, but I cant believe it would be so difficult to do - the ricers seem to all have laptops in their passenger seat doing this sort of thing. Am I just wishing out loud?

opinions?

Don't know about OBDII, but I have a laptop attached to my PCM in my '93. I can adjust timming, spark advance and air fuel ratios. I have the Mopar performance PCM and custom built software from a friend's cousin. I really like the set-up.

$1500, not bloody likely. I think I might be able to do that for half the price (by a superchips programmer for crying out loud). JFH tell me more about your PC setup. Where did you get it, how much, do you still use it etc...

is the software "available for evaluation"?

so anybody got a schematic for an OBDII interface for the PC? And maybe some software to make it run? I think it might be a hot seller on this board if it can be done for cheap!

As I said, mine is NOT OBDII, and I didn't pay anything for the software. I always have it on, it monitors everything. I got it through a friend so I don't know much about the sotware.

well, I guess it proves it can be done, all I need now is something for the OBDII. I will keep hunting.
Of course, now I am envious of your setup. Did you mount the laptop, or is it loose on the passenger seat?

I have '93 with the old bench, it's just loose in the middle, but my head unit should be able to support the computer, so I want to mount it under the seat and controll everything throught the head unit touch screen. Didn't buy it yet, but will.

Matt,
Last I knew...JFH's software is custom-made by his friend. It's not something you can just go out and buy (I could be mistaken though). Unless you got a computer geek for a friend who also knows how our PCM works, you'd prolly be better off just buying a superchips tuner or some other popular software out there.
