Subject: $1000+/- for mods for my 2.5L

ok, i have been saving a while for my truck, and i just got it, it is the 2.5L dakota. i have about $1000 or so to play with now that i have now for mods. mostly what i need is performance mods because it is very slow, but that might just be because i am new to the stick. anyways what should i do to it in any category, performance, style, i was going to say offroad, but that would be a waste of money considering the size of my engine. anyways, all input is appreciated.

p.s. sorry to put this in all categories, but it qualifies for all of them

the mpg thing is screwy on these things, i got a 2.5L sport, 2001 and the first tank i ended up with about 13mpg, then the 2nd tank was 15mpg, im on my 3rd with a 1/4 left and it's avg. around 19mpg. sticker said 21. if you follow the lil shift lights on the tach, you get better mpg also, just slow as a 4banger ;P

Easiest cosmetic mods for 98-2001 Dakotas:

Clear Corner Lenses: Changes color of the front turn signals from amber to clear, with amber bulbs to stay DOT compliant. Installs in about 10 minutes, $44.95 plus s/h from www.procarparts.com.

Billet Grille: If your truck's color can support it (white, silver, graphite, black look best, probably not a good idea for green or such) these look nice. I bought a full set of upper/lower overlays from e-bay for $105 plus s/h, which is about 1/3 of what the street scene grilles cost (though the SS grilles are full replacement grilles)

Euro-Taillights: Retail for $250, can be found at jcwhitney.com for $169 or so, e-bay for $120-180. Available with a chrome background (only recommend for white/silver/graphite/black trucks), or a carbon-fiber background (darker colored trucks). Installation time 10 minutes or less.

Performance modifications for dummies:

K&N Intake: Replaces stock airbox, more airflow and slight boost to HP. Runs anywhere from $60's for a homebrew kit made of ugly PVC Pipe to $200+ for the genuine K&N kit and ranges inbetween. In hot Las Vegas I'd recommend the 360airintakez.com version (at least if he ever gets back to me *poke poke*).

PCM module: If you own a truck that's older than 2001, you can get a PCM for around $100-400 depending on variety. From what I've gathered, MOPAR's own is the best. Stupid *censored* gearheads aren't making one for 2001++ however, and the 3rd party ones seem to be lacking vs. what MOPAR offered.

Hopefully this will help
