haha that's why you get a manual and then you don't have to worry about a rev limiter...i can go as fast as i want-125 mph in an '89 dakota stock (smoked a piece s-10 who thought he was cool because he was hanging w/ me around 90 mph)

yall must be doing something right, i hopped on I30 this morning and the most i could get was 105 with the OD off and i was sitting at about 4-4500 rpms. Anyone with some tips as how to get more out of this little 3.9 other than replacing it with a 8 give me a holler. i had a 99 S-10 ZR2 with the 4.3 vortec, and must i say, terribly dissapointed with the magnum.

I've gotten mine up to 110. but there is a way to bypass the limiter (turn the key to the start position) when you do this, you shut everything down. i don't know if this works with the older trucks. talked to a dak owner a nopi this year, he told me about it. we tried it on the way home, and sure enough, it works. for some reason, the starter doesn't enguage, and the only thing that works is your motor and tach, everything else stops. speedo, radio, all shuts down. so you really don't know how fast you're going, but if you're ahead, and they start to gain, turn the key to get a little more juice out of that puppy.

I've owned my '98, 3.9L, 4wd since new. I'm always on the road all over the country and sometimes get bored or am in a hurry to catch a ferry,etc... I've never been able to get it above 97mph. Even down hill???

Those trucks are slow....lol....i hit 135 in an automatic 04 dakota sxt. Just take the rev limiter off and add some stuff like superchargers, ram airs and flowmasters. That is all I had to do to mine.

my truck must suck! everyone is saying 120 and could have gone little more? i have the 3.9 in a 97 with K&N, a cheap chip off ebay, dyno performance (not dual) exhaust and i have only gotten around 115, that is down a hill off interstate 35! on flat roads like 103-106 is max and i do a lot of highway driving (or i used to). maybe somethin is wrong?

if ya get the hypertech reprogrammer you can change it to a couple different variations...i got my '00 R/T cc to 125 before it shut off

i got a '99 dakota sport,3.9 5-speed,got a k&n filter and a flowmaster exhaust,takes forever with the 31x10.50 tires but it'll touch 110mph

i got a 99 3.9 with venom chip, gibson exhaust, and volant intake and have gotten up to the 120 peg on the thing downhill, otherwise it'll pull out near 110-115, but the rpms stay at 3500. Gotta love limiters.
By the way, for those who say the key to start position while driving works. If the speedo stops, how do you know how fast your going, i swear i saw someone say they were going such and such a speed. either your friends with cops our your bs-ing

ive got a 94 dakota with a 3.9 and a 5-speed k&n air filter v-8 butterfly v-8 injectors and true dual exaust 3.55s in the rear with sure-grip and 225/70/r15s and ive been clocked at 145mph on my road in Weatherford, TX the cop that pulled me over said he wasnt going to give me a ticket cause hes never seen a truck go that fast all this was with 190,000 on the od total invested in truck: $2000

HIT 125 IN MY 97 318 CC AND COULD HAVE GONE FASTER WITHOUT A LIMITER ON HWY 288...

I can't say my top speed in my 01 R/T because I've pegged the speedo twice at 120mph, and the tach was still climbing. When I looked down at the tach it was at 4300-4500 rpms. Once was pacing an early 90's 'Vette and the other a Mustang Cobra. I could hang with the Mustang until about 110 then he started pulling on me. The 'Vette was just playing with me I'm sure. I'd guess 130-135 both times?

I've hit 126 with just the basics, K&N FIPK and exhuast that sucks a** and hypertech programmer. but i guess it helps since its an RT right?

Honestly guys? Why would you wanna go over 100 mph on the street and take a chance on getting yourself or someone else killed? Put a solid rearend in, a few goodies, take it to the track and enjoy the tire burning and methol smell. Look, all I'm saying is that my wife was killed by some idiot street racing. I dont like to hear of kids( or anyones spouse) getting killed from shear stupidity. Think before you act, ok!
