Subject: Tube-style step bars....Suggestions?

I was wondering if any of you guys could help me with choosing a style of tube bars for my 2000 Dak SLT Sport plus CC. I know I want the black finish because my truck is black(whole color scheme thing going here). I was looking at Westin and Smittybilt. I want something that will hug the undercarriage and not be 2 feet away from the bottom of the door. I don't want it sticking out like that where there is a ton of daylight between the tube and the bottom of the door. I've been trying to look at dak's in the area with tube bars to see how they look and find out what brand they are but not many around. What do you guys think and what do you have, and how do they look? thanks.

IMO, Westin is not really all that great. Had set of bars on my 99 Dak and they were not very tight to body, hence a couple inch gap. If you don't have mud flaps, their finish does not hold up well either, a small chip rusts fast. They have a good warranty but not against chips were most rust starts anyway. I just learned recently that Rancho makes nerf bars that bolt directly to the frame instead of body mounts like most do. That is what I will be ordering after x-mas for myself, I have a body lift too so will have to fabricate custom brackets but that's ok since it is a frame mount and more "off-roadable" if that's what your lookin for. My Westin bars folded just going over an icy snowbank, definately for looks only.

I have chrome Westins on my '00 Sport Plus 4x4. The finish has held up perfectly and they are very sturdy. Apsolutely no rust or chipping. Probably has more to do with road conditions than anything, but I'm happy with mine. Got them free from the dealer, so I'm definitely not complaining!

I had the black powdercoat, chrome finish may hold up better. They are nearly times as much $$ if you can afford it:)

I received the westin black nerf bars for christmas.

IMO, they are very close to the cab, in fact so close - I was considering a spacer...

if you want low profile, i would consider these.

GreenoDak-

I wanted to clarify... The westins are very close to the truck from the SIDE, but they do hang UNDER the truck a couple of inches. I'm not sure what you are looking for, but there is some daylight with mine.

if you wanted a full enclosure (ie - no space) consider getting the molded step style that comes with most SUV's.

Just last week I sandblasted my step bars and sprayed them with a black epoxy paint. I understand this was the only way to preserve them for many years. I also installed inside the step bars with 3"x60" strip of stainless steel for added protection to the body. Hope this helps.

Mopar has a nice set of aluminum ones you can get right from the dealer accessories catalog. Aluminum = no rust. They look pretty nice too. Especially if you have a 4x4.

I just put the Westins on my '01 QC. I went with teir "platnium series", with the lifetime warrenty. They are stainless steel-black powder coated. I'm very satisfied with them. Very easy to install. As an earlier post stated though you need the mud flaps. I picked up my mud flaps 2 days ago, I need to paint 'em and get 'em on.
