Subject: Digital overhead console revisited

very long winded 2 part question. so bear with me.

i got a 00 qc. recently picked up a trip computer for the overhead console off of ebay(out of a 00 rango). only problem is, there was no wiring sent along with it. just the complete console minus the mounting bracket and harness.

now, i dont really want to go to the stealership and spend 100 or so(maybe more havent done a price check on it) for the harness. when im at the boneyard, will i have to be model/year specific on the harness or can i luck out and beable to use any old mopar console harness as long as the pigtail plugs into the trip computer?

second part

quoted from zenbara 25 mar 06

4 wires from trip computer harness.
purple/yellow= pci bus
black= ground
pink = 12 volt power
blue/white= ignition power source
3 of the wires can be wired to data communication port under dash on drivers side.
data port reads as follows top row(l to r)1-8
bottom row(l to r) 9-16
pci to #2
ground to #4
pink to #16
hook bl/white wire to any source thhat has power with ignition on such as stereo. everything will be good to go.

does this only pertain to the 03 model? my dcp has nothing goin to the #2 slot for the pci bus to get its info from. do i splice into either slot #7(pink/lt blue) or the #15 slot(pink/dk blue)? now i am guessing that i will have to splice into points 4(black/white) and 16(pink) on my dcp. am i correct to go this way or will i need a different route for my dak

just got back from the boneyard and hit paydirt. now i wished that i would have waited on getting the console off of ebay. oh well, i can resell the ebay one lol the only problem with the donor vehicle(00 rango) is that the drivers side was crunched pretty good so i could not get the whole harness. suprisingly the auto dimming mirror looked like it didnt get damaged so i picked that up as well.

i am guessing that i can just hardwire the black, pink and yellow(slots 1, 2 and 7) wires to the existing ones since all they are is for the dome/map light. thats the easy part.

however, where do the remaining 6 wires for the trip computer connect: slot 4 purple/green; slot 5 purple/black; slot 6 blue/white; slot 10 black/lt blue; slot 11 white/black and slot 12 black/tan (or pink?).

also for the 3 wires on the mirror. blue/white, black, and purple/black. where do these connect? thinking the black to the ground, blue/white to the blue/white on the console pigtail, but dont think the purple/black will be connecting to the same on the pigtail. any help will be greatly appreciated

I recently installed one in my 93 Dakota... What you are doing is NOT an easy task... but doable. Plan on a good 6-10 hours. Mine took about 5 hrs, but since your dak is newer i figure theirs alot more wiring in it. The self dimming mirror wires should plug into the trip computer console. (thats where mine went) It had a plug and slipped into its socket so that was easy. For the rest of those wires yes your right on the dome things.. You can basicaly splice in wherever you want. All the rest will plug into the trucks computer.. (this again is how mine was) This sounds kind of scary splicing into the computer.. What i did was disconnect the battery and after each splice (did it one at a time) Hooked the battery up to make sure there was no short. It is really hard to walk someone through this task.. But if you have any other questions feel free to hollar. I'll try to help as much as possible. The harness coming out of the Ecu should be opened to view what color wires are inside. Make sure to REALLY look at the wires because their are so many different colors some may be very similar to another one. Anyways good luck!

operation for the most part was a success. however, i am glad that i did not read your post before starting, paul. with my dislike of electrical work, the pcm would have been ripped off the wheel well and thrown into the neighors yard within an hour if i did it your way lol

went to a nearby chrysler stealership to get scmatics. after lookin for 1/2 hr or so, couldnt find anything and had to go to the dodge stealership accross town.

the only lead i havent connected is the thermostat lead. would have finished it yesterday, but the wife was bitchin at me to put the truck back together so we can get goin to the royals game. now if i were to splice the thermo lead into the pci+ lead, will the temp reading be displayed? hopefully i wont have to snake a lead out to where i can splice into the sensor's lead

Yea, electrical work can be a HUGE PAIN!!! But I'm not sure what your electrical system is (how it is wired) I'm sure it quite similar but don't hold me on that... But if i was to answer your question i would say yes! If it does work... make sure to go over all your splices and make sure they're tight splices and wrapped up completely... WIRE NUTS work very well for this application.
