Subject: clear corners legality?
IP: Logged

Message:
I just got my clear corners in the mail woot. I checked on the legality of them with the stock white bulb, and on the texas department of transportation site it says this.( i took out non relevant portions)

"TRC §547.324.

TURN SIGNAL LAMPS REQUIRED.
(c) Turn signal lamps:
(d) A turn signal lamp shall emit:

(1) a white or amber light, or a color between white and amber, if the lamp is mounted on the front of the vehicle; or"

As far as i can tell i don't need to purchase amber bulbs for the front turn signals with my new clears. Has anyone from texas run into a problem with this? My second question is, is there a good installation guide for the front turn signals on my truck ( 98 dakota sport ) i cant seem to find one in a search and cannot locate my manual. Thx

Two other components to lookup; the front side marker lights; and the front side reflector. The clear corners have these other two items. Be sure to check the regs on 'em.

As for legality, also remember that different states have different lighting requirements. While Texas allows amber or white turn signals, other states only allow amber.

What I have done is to use amber bulbs, but I have sprayed the bulbs with silver engine paint. The lights still glow amber when on, but you don't see that amber blob in the clear corner when it's off. Much cheaper then the LEDs on chrome coated bulbs.
