Does anyone have the V-Tech ram head taillight covers???

I was thinking of getting some for my Dakota but have heard a couple bad things about em. I've heard that the tape sometimes comes off after a year or so and leaves the brakelights looking like crap. I've also heard that they may be illegal in some states or that you can't have them on during state inspections. Anyone know if they're legal or not in NJ or where I could find out? Anyone have any problems with the tape coming off?

Also, how easy are they to paint and attach?

Thanks!

yea i put them on my truck. ive had em for mayb 4 months now and i havent had any problems with the tape. one thing i did tho, was put an extra little strip of double sided tape on the middle peices. not sure wut to call them but the two tabs in the middle felt a little flimsy to me so i just put sum more tape on em to hold them to the tail lamp.
about the paint, i went to pepboys and got 1 can of primer, 1 can of paint, and 1 can of clear coat. all were spray cans made by plasticoat. i just scuffed up the outside of the covers with scotchbrite to get the shine of them. then run them under water to get the shavings off and let dry. then sprayed 2 coats of primer, of course letting it dry between coats. sanded it down a little with some fine grit sandpaper, just to make it smooth. put down 2 coats of paint, sanded it smooth again. then 1 more coat of paint and 2 coats of clear.
just remember not to touch the outside of the covers, u dont want to get any oil or dirt from your hands onto the covers. also after sanding, run them under water to wash away any dirt, and let them dry. i used a blow gun to blow the water off but just dont wipe the water off with a rag or anything.
i think all the paint cost me about $10-$15 and since i work at a shop, the sandpaper and scotchbrite were free. they match my truck perfectly but my truck is also black and thats probly the easiest color to match.
