I have been very happy with The Wax Shop
products: Super Glaze (liquid wax) is tough,
yet really easy to work (I was introduced to it by
a reputable body shop); I use LRV (Leather
Rubber Vinyl) appropriately (no slippery
Silicone!).
For faded exterior black plastic parts, Black
Again (Rhino Industries) is great.

I like the Meguiar's products as they really bring out my pearl coat. But I'm not sure if you would call it the wet look, though.

I once had some 3M polish and wax given to me by a frind that worked at Plaza Motors in Creve Coure, MO. He said that is what they used on the porshe, jags, benz, bmz, etc at their in house detail shop. He move to colodado, and I cant find it anywhere, It was awsome through.

Meguiars Gold Class is all I use. I have a black truck, it goes on and off easy and doesn't leave any swirl marks.

Consumer reports says "if a shiny finish is paramount concern" use Zymol Cleaner Wax Liquid or Nu Finish Car Polish paste.I use Nu Finish and it works well.

A few guys at work swear by Liquid Glass. I guess you can put a few coats on and it will actually help protect the finish from chips and the like. Also, really adds that "wet" look you are going for.

I'm getting ready to try out Meguires #26. Why? Until now I've been using Carnuba/Nu Finish to polish my vehicles. However, I spoke with our company's paint shop foreman. They are now using Meguires #26 to wax brand new S-76 helicopters (Imron/Clear coat) prior to delivery to owners. Figure it's worth a try...

before waxing use meguires clay bar. It is used to get all of the dirt out of the paint that normal washing cant. It is much better and easier to use than the mothers clay bar. Verry impressed with the results

I am also pleased with Mequires. When I sold my 98 last month the finish looked exactly the day it did when I got it except for some 4x4 scratches. Mind you I will wax every couple weeks when the weather permits. My girl friend?? never waxed here car once and the paint is destroyed. It's a 98 also. Irks me to death people that drop $20,000+ on a brand new vehicle and let it go to shi..

I saw somewhere a reference to the Consumer Reports study. Look further down the page and check out Eagle One Wet Polish/Wax. It works great on swirl marks and provides excellent protection. Stay away from Rain-X. Used it and it shines great, but no protection from the birds.

dude,
honestly, use the Honday polish wipe off for motorcycles. thats what i do for my truck. i swear the shine is so unbelieveable!!!! really shocking to other RT's out there. just my 2 cents.

One thing to be carefull about the clay bar, If you use it more then 3-4 times you may go through your clear coat. On polish vs. wax, Polish contains a mild abrasive that will also go through your clearcoat eventually. Anything beyond that is up to you, althogh some "waxes" are really silicone. It does not hurt your paint it just does not last as long as Carnuba wax does.

i was wondering if anyone has this problem also. i park on the street and when the sprinklers come on they leave little brown specks, like rust on the paint. since i have white paint it is very noticable and annoying. i cant park in the driveway so thats not a solution.
my question is this, would a clay bar work to get it off. i have used meguiers cleaner-wax and does get some off. i couldnt find a clay bar at my local discount auto parts. could i find it at auto zone or pep boys maybe? also is it hard to use?

steve-o, i have a white truck too and i know what you are talking about. the clay bar works GREAT on that stuff!! takes it off with ease and all the other dirt in your paint. real easy to use. i have used it about 5 times and i dont see how it would go through your clear coat if used properly. meguires is easier to use and works better than mothers clay bar. i got mine at kragen. just the clay bar alone works wonders. HUGE difference in the smoothness of the paint.

Careful, I also have heard that you should only use the clay bar 3-4 times during the life of the paint. Damn I wish I could remember where I heard that though. I think it was one of the car shows on TNN on Sunday mornings.
Is there a warning or anything on the package. I ahve never used one but am very tempted. Just a little scared to do more harm than good. I wonder if there is a plave on the net that would say for sure.

Long time no talk. Give me a call when you get a chance so we can talk shop. I found a Mothers's Clay Bar kit at the Discount Auto Parts on the corner of University & Dean. Only used it once so I don't know about long term usage rules. They're very helpful (Discount) there and will order anything you want! That's where I got my Robert Shaw 180 thermostat and special ordered my K&N Crankcase Vent Filter from. Keep me posted on any developments with the Orlando scene.

Had a question regarding clay bars. My buddy took his truck out to the desert a little while ago, and it was quite windy, and sand was blowing real hard, and now it looks like he has particals of sand imbedded in the paint in a few spots on his truck, he tried washing it, but it doesnt seem to want to come out, and he is pretty scared to try other things for fear it will scratch the paint. Any ideas on how to get this out? would a clay bar work for this?

ZYMOL LIQUID is what you want.
Follow directions closely, and do as they say and you will get a wet/mirrored gloss you won't believe. I put it on my 1996 Buick Regal last year and couldnt believe my eyes.

I use 3m hand glaze for swirls n scratches and just turtle wax for wax. anything worse and I'll break out the sander with a buffing pad and 3m rubbing compound

i have used all the products mentioned . the only one i use now on all my toy's is ZAINO --- this stuff works wonders !!! a little time consuming the 1st time but the results are well worth it!

The most important thing to think about is how much shine do you need to put on. If you're paint's dull and needs restoring start with compound, move to polish, then glaze then wax. if it's really bad, there is a priduct that paint shops and detailers use called mud. it's a little coarser than compound and meant to take the surface off the exsisting paint to expose the better stuff underneath. ALWAYS clean your truck really good and get all the old junk off before detailing and use a good light and look at different angle to see any imperfections that may need to be taken care of. The best route on compound is whatever's on the parts store shelf, it's only abrasive and all of them are about the same. Polish is about the same but you can start by trying brands like Mother's, Meguiers, or the 3M products. Whatever you feel most comfortable with. You can try a liquid polish but beware of marketing hype. You're after an extremely fine abrasive that's going to cut into the surface of the paint and it will leave swirl marks. As far as wax goes, I've found that pastes (yes, it means more work) work best and you want one with carnuba wax in it. This fills in the tiny swirl marks and forms a shell that protects the paint surface. If you have a clear coat finish, look for a product that's clear coat safe if you want. Remember that Clear coat is just a clear paint. If you compound or polish the car, you run the risk of going through that clear coat just like on any other paint but it's harder to tell because it's clear. Turtle Wax and Meguire's both have this and I think Mother's paste wax has it too. Browse the shelf at your local auto parts store and you'll see what I mean about marketing hype. There are a ton of products out there and they are all the best according to the label and many of them push ease of use to get you to buy them. If you don't put your ass into making your ride look nice, it won't look like it.
